About us
Our aim: To raise public awareness of issues, problems, opportunities, and solutions related to environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
Our action: We provide non-formal and intercultural learning experiences in order to enhance sustainable development and encourage young people to become active and transformational agents of their communities.
Our vision: To support initiatives that boost the process of environmental transition within the EU, through social inclusion, actions on sustainability, and youth empowerment.
Our Story
Established in 2020 in Stockholm, IRIS Sustainable Development was founded by people sharing one vision: to promote sustainable thinking and living, grounded in the interconnection of economic wellbeing, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. The name draws on Greek mythology , Iris, goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, whose rainbow symbolises hope after the storm, capturing our dedication to inspiring people to become a cogwheel of change for a better, more sustainable future.
Today IRIS is formally recognised within the UN system — holding ECOSOC Special Consultative Status and membership of UN SDSN Youth — and is part of the EIT Digital community. Through non-formal and intercultural learning, we empower young people, women, adults and VET learners as agents of change across sustainability, women’s empowerment and the ethical use of AI.

What we do
-
We participate as a Leading and Partner Organisation in Erasmus+ projects funded by the European Commission, opening young people to inclusive activities built on continuous progress and lifelong learning.
-
We publicise the UN 2030 Agenda and its SDGs to raise sustainable-development awareness in the community, alongside human-rights protection and social inclusion.
-
We advance the ethical use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies — building digital and AI skills, bridging the digital divide and harnessing technology as a tool for sustainability.
-
We organise group activities, both outdoors and indoors, to combat the effects of climate change, manage natural resources effectively and act in favour of environmental protection.
-
We raise awareness of active community participation in promoting equality and dignity, and we encourage the practice of volunteering.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
“The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The 17 Goals are all interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030”
